| All individuals experience a variety of life stressors; however many people to do not know the most effective coping skills for dealing with these stressors. People learn coping skills through the institutions and environment that they act in. Such "teachers" of coping skills include family of origins, religious institutes, schools, neighborhoods, social classes, peer groups, jobs, role models, significant others, and recreational activities. Although all of these influences usually mean well, they can be unaware of individuals unique needs, the variety of skills that can be utilized, and flaws in some of the skills that they do teach. Because of the lack of training in healthy coping skills, people often experience a variety of problems in the following areas of life: RELATIONSHIPS FINANCES EMPLOYMENT HEALTH PROBLEMS SOCIAL ACTIVITIES SPIRITUALITY EDUCATION PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES PARENTING SLEEP The understanding and development of healthy coping skills can prove effective. This can ultimately lead to improvements in communication patterns, self esteem and image, life satisfaction, and over all functioning. |
